Shallowbrook Interscholastic Women's Polo Team

Click to EnlargeShallowbrook Interscholastic Women's Polo team played the 2005 USPA National Interscholastic Women's Polo Team and played them to a very impressive victory, 20 to 12. Shallowbrook held the lead from the first throw in with goals by Kristen Wenning (first goal of the game) playing in the one position, followed with 2 goals by Emily Persano, playing in the three position.

Maryland made their first goal with a #2 foul shot, called on Kaila Dowd, Lizzie Wisner put a beautiful straight shot to an undefended goal, making the score 3 to 1 favor of Shallowbrook. Persano came came right back with 2 more goals and Wenning with 1 to make it six (6) to one (1) at the end of the first Chukka.

The second chukka started with Persano scoring her 5th goal followed by Kaila Dowd, playing for Shallowbrook in the two position, scoring back to back goals. Wisner, not to be outdone, put two on the boards back to back for Maryland. Shallowbrook was hot and came back with Wenning making one goal and then Persano brought the fans to their feet with a two pointer from the opposite end of the arena. Maryland made the last three goals of the 2nd Chukka, 2 by Kelsey Nyssenfeld, playing in the #3 and a pony goal making it Shallowbrook on top 12 to 6 at half time. Maryland's Wisner starts off the 3rd chukka with the first goal but not to be outdone Kaila Dowds lays down two goals for Shallowbrook but Wisner comes back with her own keeping the score the same six goals apart.

The third chukka started with Lizzie Wisner making the first goal but Kaila Dowd comes right back with two and then made two more goals in the third, one by Wenning and one by Persano. The score at the end of the 3rd chukka is Shallowbrook 16 and Maryland 10 keeping the score the same six goals apart.

At the top of the 4th chukka Maryland's Kelsey Nussenfeld scores her 3rd goal of the game and the first score of the chukka but Kristen Wenning made two of her own, back to back, as did Emily Persano. Maryland finished the chukka with a converted #2 foul, making the final score 20 to 12. This was a very exciting game to watch whether you where rooting for Maryland or Shallowbrook High scorer for the game was Emily Persano with 10 goals and for the Maryland team Lizzie Wisner with 6 goals.

The people who came hoping to see a exciting polo game were not disappointed. It looks like these two teams will be facing each other for the USPA National Interscholastic Women's Polo Championship finals at the end of February.
