Sun Shines on Shallowbrook Charity Horse Show

Mother Nature provided wonderful weather for Shallowbrook Equestrian Center’s 31st Annual Charity Horse Show June 5th – 7th. After a bit of misty rain the first afternoon, the sun did not stop shinning for the remainder of the show.

For the second year in a row, Shallowbrook Equestrian Center partnered with Ride for the Ribbon, Stefanie Spielman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.  Shallowbrook will be donating a portion of the Ride for the Ribbon entry fees to this very worthy cause. With hundreds in attendance, the show provided an impressive setting to support Stepanie Spielman’s belief that “education is the best weapon against this disease.”

As an active supporter of the equine industry and breast cancer research, Governor Jodi Rell of Connecticut expressed her support, “this is a perfect opportunity to also extend thanks to Shallowbrook Equestrian Center for their dedication, enthusiasm, and generosity in partnering with Ride for the Ribbon…it is my hope that this year’s show will be even more enjoyable and successful than last year and I thank all of the participants for your exceptional support in the fight against such a terrible disease.”

A few of the show highlights (besides the free ice cream social sponsored by Shallowbrook Equestrian Center both Saturday and Sunday), included:

• The $1,000 Ride for the Ribbon 2’6” Hunter Classic winner Jenifer Bently riding Mr. Darcy.
• Best Modified Adult Rider winner Jessica Snell riding Connect The Dots.
• Best Short Stirrup Rider Tye Donaldson riding Shenendoah Oasis.
• Best Pre-Children’s Rider Caitlin Maloney riding Rosmel’s French Vanilla.
• Best Pony Rider, Madeline McDermott riding Clovermeade Who’s Your Bunny?.
• Best Child Rider, Alex Girgenti riding Time Piece.
• Best Walk Trot Rider, Shallowbrook’s Kimberly Ouimet riding Shallowbrook’s Cute Cousin Andy.
• $1,000 Ride for the Ribbon Pony Hunter Classic winner Ericka Koscinski riding Touchdown.
• Grand Children’s Hunter Champion Rodderick, shown by Harpur Schwartz (the pair was also Champion in the Junior Equitation and Children’s Hunter Horse divisions).

The show’s grand finale was the exhilarating $1,000 Ride for the Ribbon Six Bar Jumper Classic.  After 5 rounds and the fence height reaching well-over four feet, Tracey Clark and her mount Darco’s Symphony were the proud winners.

All of Shallowbrook’s riders were also awarded impressive ribbons.

• Four Shallowbrook riders competed in the Baby Green Jumpers including instructor Lucy Manos on her new mount Sincerely Yours.
• Kim Ouimet and Lindsey Taft rode in the Walk Trot 11 & Over Equitation and Pleasure divisions winning Champion and Reserve Champion in both.
• Lilia Shea rode in the Children’s Pleasure Pony division on Cute Cousin Andy.
• Meghan Banach rode in the Modified Adult Equitation and Hunter divisions on Rip Van Winkle.
• Alessandra Mele rode in the Schooling Hunter division on Bubbalicious.
• Top Hat ‘n’ Tails newly owned by Teri and Marisa Henry was Reserve Champion in the Hunter Pleasure Championship, Adult Pleasure Championship, and Color Breed Pleasure Championship.

Fun was had by all and many were impressed with the exceptional organization of the event.  “We just wanted to let you know what a wonderful show you held.  We run shows ourselves and we know as management what a big and difficult job it is to run a nice show.  It was nice to see all of the grass cut and trimmed and all of your jumps freshly painted and decorated.  We appreciate going to shows like this since we try to run the same type of show.  As an avid show attendee, not many shows were comparable to your show!” – Elizabeth Murray, Salt River Farm

Ride for the Ribbon, Stefanie Spielman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research
Diagnosed at the age of 30, Stefanie has now survived two bouts with breast cancer. She believes that education is the best weapon against this disease, and that research is the key to eliminating it. That’s why she and her husband, former OSU football star and All-Pro NFL linebacker Chris Spielman, established the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The James. They pledged to raise $1 million to be dedicated to breast cancer research at the Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University.  Although this goal has been surpassed, your help is still needed in the fight against breast cancer.
The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The James has raised approximately $3.0 million since 1999.  (ridefortheribbon.net)

M&S Bit o’ Straw Hunter Classic added to June Charity Show

The Marshall & Sterling Bit o’ Straw Hunter Classic (2’6”) class has been added to the Shallowbrook Charity Horse Show being held June 5 -7, 2009.

The M&S Bit o’Straw Hunter Class will run on Sunday, June 7, 2009, in Hunter Ring 1 after Class #8 – Children’s Equitation Division. The entry fee will be $40.00.
